Nằm ở phía đông của đại lục Úc cách bờ biển khoảng 700 km, phía nam của Thái Bình Dương, nhóm đảo Lord Howe bao gồm các hòn đảo bị cô lập giữa đại dương. Địa hình các đảo bao gồm nhiều ngọn núi lửa nằm ở đáy biển và một địa hình núi non vô cùng ngoạn mục với chiều cao trung bình khoảng 2000m. Khu vực được công nhận bao gồm rất nhiều các loại đặc hữu và các loài chim quý hiếm, với khoảng 130 loài nhưng hơn một nửa đang có nguy cơ tuyệt chủng trước tình trạng ô nhiễm môi trường. Nhóm đảo Lord Howe được UNESCO công nhận là di sản thiên nhiên thế giới vào năm 1982.
